The Sopot Reservoir (Язовир Сопот in Bulgarian) is 120 kms north-east of Sofia, in the foothills of the central Balkan Mountains. From Sofia it is a comfortable 90-minute drive, with two-thirds of the trip on the Hemus Motorway. (There is easy access to the motorway from Sofia International Airport.) After the motorway finishes at Yablanitsa, the highway passes through the villages of Brestnitsa and Bulgarski Izvor, about 8 kms beyond which is the turn-off for the “old Troyan road” (signposted for the towns of Lesidren and Borima). Lake Sopot begins – and the land is located – about 5 kms along this road.
